Editor, The Beacon:
Regarding the recent article in The Beacon about the proposed redesign for the intersection of U.S. Highway 17-92 and Enterprise Road in Orange City: I realize that no one wants unsolicited advice and that the DOT has not advertised for public comment, but after reading the statistics on the recent accidents there and looking at the proposed changes pictured in your diagram, I would like to offer a suggestion.
As with roundabouts, the pedestrian crosswalks should be moved farther away from the intersection itself. They resemble some sadistic trial-by-ordeal gauntlet thought up by a depraved engineer obsessed with sick violence. An invitation for further impacts and injuries. Cars and pedestrians don’t mix.
Nor do I see any safe bicycle lanes marked off in the illustration.
Surely college-educated minds can come up with something better.

Don, thanks for defending pedestrians and cyclists. Florida is dangerous for both. We need to improve that.
