New residents will require more services
UGLY — Here is what the ugliness of development looks like during a clearing for more houses in Victoria Hills 2020. BEACON FILE PHOTO

Editor, The Beacon:

Who is responsible for the current extensive and shocking clearing of land on southeast Voorhis Avenue, resulting in the building of a large number of two-story homes, with little spacing allowed between each? In addition, the nearby existing homes are all, in contrast, one-story.

Farther down the street, ending at Woodland Boulevard, more structures are taking form, rising on both sides.

This present “development” is transforming this portion of the city of DeLand, from beautiful to ugly. Our precious natural resource water is not unlimited, and will obviously be impacted by the sudden demand by the soon-to-arrive people, who will be occupying the dense “close to Downtown DeLand” property. How many residents will be crammed into this space?

It appears to be rapidly moving along. Are we prepared for all the city services that will be required by the influx of a large number of people that will soon arrive? Will we suddenly need to build a parking garage?
