Votran tries new transit service in DeLand
GRAPHIC COURTESY VOLUSIA COUNTY COMMUNITY INFORMATION<br> NEW RIDES — The new transit service known as VoRide is now available only in DeLand, but Volusia County officials say they plan to expand the service to other nearby localities, such as Orange City, Deltona and DeBary, in 2024.

The people who brought you fixed-route bus service on both sides of Volusia County are now offering a new, affordable on-demand transit option within DeLand — and it may be expanded to other westside towns.

Votran is now operating VoRide, a rideshare service that provides cars to pick up and drop off passengers needing to go to medical appointments, stores or even social gatherings — and the charge is only $2, or even $1 for disabled riders, those over 65 years of age, and children between 7 and 18 years old.

Besides taking people to specific addresses, VoRide also enables riders to connect with Votran buses going beyond VoRide’s service area.

VoRide operates 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday. There is no service on Sunday.

People interested in using VoRide may download the app or go to www.votran.org. They may also call 386-210-9861.

Since VoRide’s launch Dec. 5, about 500 people have used the service.
