Editor, The Beacon:
For me, stewardship is my goal above all else. It means caring for, and responsible management of, something entrusted to one’s care. Children come to mind, and for me, also natural resources and wildlife.
There are currently two pieces of legislation in Tallahassee that if passed will fulfill my good stewardship goals. HB 495 and SB 1576 would prohibit smoking and vaping in all 175 state parks.
More than 100 miles of our state parks are beachfronts; also we have springs, rivers, forest and wetlands. Ridding them of the trash, dangers and the filth of smoking and vaping will equal the stewardship other states have shown.
Several cities in Volusia County now have ordinances banning tobacco and vaping use in their parks.
Tobacco Free Volusia has monthly calls. Google and ask how your city can be free. Please call your state senators and representatives. Tell them you are their constituent and this is what you want. Be a REAL Florida steward.
Thank you,
Suze Peace
