Spiritual Side: Celtic harpist and coach De Luna to perform in DeLand
HARPIST DE LUNA

First Unitarian Universalist Church of West Volusia in DeLand welcomes Celtic harpist and coach De Luna at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, Feb. 25. De Luna will share the amazing sounds of the harp, which she loves for its elegance, versatility, gentleness and healing qualities.

De Luna considers sharing this gift her life’s purpose. She will explain how the healing sounds of the harp can fill your heart and be a tool to help you raise your vibration, and consequently, your quality of life.

Unitarian Universalists are an inclusive, freethinking, faith community, where all are welcome, as everyone learns and searches together for truth.

Faces

On Sunday, Feb. 25, the congregation of and visitors to First Presbyterian Church of DeLand will continue the journey through Lent. Pastor Michael Bodger will continue the Lenten study book Pause by taking a look at Psalm 27.

It is a “song” of confidence in God and of being in relationship with God. Verse 8 talks about “seeking God’s face!” and it stirs thoughts about becoming close enough to do that.

When we are face-to-face, we are close with each other. This closeness of relationship is what the psalmist is seeking with God, and so it is for us.

How do we go about seeking closeness with God? The psalmist recoils at the thought of God’s face being hidden or turned away or cast off, and yearns instead to “see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

First Pres’s popular monthly First Friday Community Bingo games continue at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1. There will be fun prizes and snacks, and it is free!

Look to the website fpcdeland.org for details about all First Pres’s Lenten activities, including “Eggsperience” 2:30- 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23. There will be family activities, egg hunts, bounce houses, arts and crafts, snacks and more! Free entry — bring your Easter basket, and join in the fun!

First Pres says, “All are welcome to join us, as we seek God and each other, face-to-face, during this Lenten season.”

Activities at First Church DeLand

First Church DeLand has a new sermon series, “God and the Underdogs.” Have you ever felt that you are unqualified, under-equipped, unworthy or unseen? At one time or another, we all probably have walked one of those paths.

This Sunday, Feb. 25, Pastor Mark Bitner’s sermon title is “Daniel as the Underdog.” Once revered, Daniel finds himself in a lions’ den. It is his steadfast faith in God that saves him from the jaws of certain death.

New Ground, a Southern gospel group, will present a concert 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 8. This is a free concert; a love offering will be collected.

The annual Rummage Sale will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Proceeds will benefit the Overflow Youth Group. This is always a well-attended event, and the public is welcome.

Volunteers are needed for Vacation Bible School, which runs June 24-28. The theme is “Scuba Diving Into Friendship With God.” Registration is open on the website www.firstchurchdeland.org, FC Kids.

Bible study will be at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Life Enrichment Center. Pastor Mark will lead one study, and a small group will meet in Room 113. You are invited to attend.

‘Conversation Session’ at 1st Christian Church

The Rev. Carlos Perez of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of DeLand will have a “Conversation Session” Thursday, Feb. 29, related to the sermon series “Wisdom” as developed in the Book of Proverbs. Those wanting to attend may call 386-734-0677 for an exact time.

The last sermon in the “Wisdom” series is Sunday, Feb. 25. Worship includes music by Andrew Glennon and song leader Donna Mozley; and Communion prayers and elements offered by Sue Brague, Janet Raney, Fernando Morales and Paul Ashton.

The Week of Compassion offering is taken at this service. Those contributing are providing for the relief, refugee and development mission of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The offering is not just for relief in other countries; when devastation hits with fires, flooding and hurricanes, the office in Tampa helps to relieve suffering here in Florida.

“Faithful vs. Faithless” is the March theme for the 9:30 a.m. adult Sunday-school class meeting in the church library. All Scripture is from the New Testament, with new large-print New International Version Bibles being used.

Other activities during the week are prayer at 3 p.m. Mondays, and Narcotics Anonymous meetings at noon and 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Bingo will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23.

‘Which Route Is Right?’

The congregation of Mosaic Unitarian Universalist meets online at 11 a.m. every Sunday. The Feb. 25 service is titled “Which Route Is Right?”

Do all religious and spiritual paths lead to the same destination? With bits of philosophy, history, religion and spirituality, the Rev. Teresa Leary explores this question in the context of Unitarian Universalism. Everyone is welcome!
