The DeLand City Commission will once again take up discussion of demolition of the Old Jail site at 130 W. New York Ave. at a regularly scheduled City Commission meeting March 18.

City staff is requesting the City Commission move to either demolish the jail or authorize a rehabilitation architectural study by JL2 Architecture, a Lakeland-based company, at the cost of $23,398.

The request for action follows a five-year-long saga where a local company, GlassHouse Square LLC, had planned to demolish the site and build a large office building.

GlassHouse ran afoul of the City Commission for lack of specific plans, and ultimately, the city severed the contract in July 2023.
