Editor, The Beacon:
“Pedestrian down, hit by car.” This is probably one of the worst calls a police officer has to hear. It can and may occur if our town does not install a crosswalk at Woodland Boulevard and Georgia Avenue in Downtown DeLand.
This area is extremely “pedestrian-busy,” since it is located across from one of the town’s largest parking lots that leads into Georgia Avenue, where Artisan Alley events occur.
Go there and see how many people cross there on a Friday night, playing “miss the oncoming cars” with their lives. Is there a pedestrian traffic-light crosswalk nearby? Yes. Will people walk the extra 50 to 100 yards and use it? No.
Additionally, there are other areas of non-traffic-light pedestrian crosswalks in town.
Strong suggestion to our town officials … place one at Woodland Boulevard and Georgia Avenue before Line 1 in this letter occurs. Thank you!

I love going downtown and watching the folks play human “Frogger” it has really gotten more entertaining since everyone is walking around with their drinks as the alcohol flows freely from all of the bars here in Bum City!
