Get ready for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, as Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen brings back, by popular request, the quartet from the first Shoebox Stage Door Canteen for a performance Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, at Shoestring.
This show, called Memorial Canteen, reunites the original performers and great friends from 2010 in solos, duets and jazzy quartets.
Enjoy the sultry tones of mezzo Conya Hartman, the smooth bass notes of Michael Shiles, the mellifluous sound of bari-tenor Bob Sollien, and the lovely soprano of Anne Sollien. Cynthia Hansen returns as their intrepid accompanist and completes this cast of accomplished musicians and great friends.
The show is filled with the music of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, as we reminisce through the iconic music of the 1930s and ’40s, with classic hits such as “Always,” “Kalamazoo,” “Stormy Weather” and “Dream,” to name only a few.
Having the opportunity to sing stunning harmonies with their talented friends make the “Love Medley” and “Swing Medley” of Gershwin the favorite numbers for the performers.
“Salute to the Armed Forces,” another show highlight, will honor those who have died serving our country so bravely.

Two performances Memorial Day weekend will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for veterans and students. Student tickets must be purchased through the box office.
