The Athens Theatre Youth Academy is back with another electrifying production that’s sure to captivate audiences of all ages. This time, they’re bringing to life Jonathan Rand’s hilarious and fast-paced comedy Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit. What’s more astonishing is that the entire play is produced in just one week!
Set to take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, this unique rendition of the classic Law & Order format promises to be an evening filled with laughter, whimsy, and what are sure to be a few unexpected twists.
In Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit, audiences will be transported into the fairy-tale criminal-justice system, where characters from beloved tales and nursery rhymes find themselves embroiled in all sorts of marvelous mayhem and mischief. From Goldilocks’ porridge-pilfering to Humpty Dumpty’s great fall, no fairy-tale crime evades the watchful eye of this specialized team of law enforcement.
Under the direction of Ayò Demps, with assistance from Allyson Elliott and Michael McNamara, the talented young performers of ATYA are ready to take on the challenge of bringing this fantastical world to life. With just four days of rehearsal, including the incorporation of costumes, sets and lighting, the cast and crew are diving headfirst into the creative process, turning out an impressive production at lightning speed!
This isn’t the first time ATYA has tackled such a monumental feat. Last year, they wowed audiences with 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse, marking their debut into the realm of fully produced plays (in a jiffy)! Now in its second year, ATYA is proving that they’re not afraid to push the boundaries and take on ambitious projects that showcase the talents of their teen performers.
One of the most exciting aspects of ATYA’s productions is the audition process, which kicks off on day one of camp. From there, it’s a whirlwind of rehearsals, character development, and technical fine-tuning, all leading up to the exhilarating opening night.
With its blend of classic fairy tales and modern crime drama, Law & Order: Fairy Tale Unit promises to entertain audiences of all ages, reminding us that even in the world of make-believe, justice must be served, whether it’s by the stroke of a wand or the clang of a gavel!
