Volusia County Sheriff’s Office officers and a bomb squad were on site at Pennsylvania Avenue and High Street in Lake Helen today serving an arrest warrant for violation of probation on Jared Coburn, 43, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant. Coburn was taken into custody without incident, according to eyewitnesses.
Coburn was previously arrested in 2018 for attempting to make fireworks with an extremely explosive material known as TATP. He was released on probation in mid-2019.
In 2018, Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood called the amount of TATP found “enough to blow up half the house.”
According to court documents, Coburn’s violation of probation was on three counts: possessing Vaseline, model glue, and a notebook “containing written plans to attempt to possess/make/throw any destructive devices.”
When The Beacon called the Lake Helen Police Department for information, a representative said, “It has nothing to do with the police department – it has something to do with the Sheriff’s Office. We didn’t even know about it.”
