Our leaders must act with integrity and vision

Editor, The Beacon:

We are standing at a critical juncture in our history, a moment that demands introspection and decisive action from our government and ourselves. As we face unprecedented challenges, it is imperative that we course-correct and choose the right objectives for the right reasons. This pivotal time calls for electing leaders with a focus on eliminating hate, invoking stillness, and looking ahead to ensure we can be proud of our actions today.

The need to eliminate hate cannot be overstated. Hate divides us, fuels violence, and erodes the very fabric of our society. By setting goals that promote inclusivity, respect, and understanding, our government can lead the way in creating a more harmonious and united nation.

Policies aimed at education, social justice and community-building are essential to uproot the deep-seated prejudices that still exist.

Secondly, invoking stillness is crucial. In our fast-paced world, we often overlook the power of reflection and calm. Stillness allows us to pause, consider our actions, and make thoughtful decisions rather than reactionary ones.

Our leaders must embody this principle, taking the time to listen to their constituents, deliberate carefully, and craft policies that are well-considered and effective. This approach will not only lead to better decision-making, but also foster a political climate of patience and understanding — something this world needs a little more.

Finally, we must peer into the future and ask ourselves what we will think of our actions tomorrow. Will we be proud of the choices we made, or will we look back with regret? This future-oriented mindset should guide our objectives today. By prioritizing sustainability, equity and longterm prosperity over short-term gains, we can build a legacy that future generations will respect and appreciate.

The current Florida Legislature has been choosing the wrong objectives and creating problems for far too long. The right objectives, chosen for the right reasons, can steer us towards a brighter future. Eliminating hate, invoking stillness and maintaining a forward-looking perspective are the pillars upon which we can build a better Florida.

It is up to us and our leaders to embrace these principles and act with integrity and vision. It is up to us to keep moving forward.
