After serving on the DeLand City Commission, as a commissioner and vice mayor, over the past 23 years, I decided that I wanted to take a break from public office.
I want to thank the citizens of DeLand for giving their faith and votes to me, a 26-year old native of DeLand, when I first ran for the City Commission back in 2001. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to represent the citizens of DeLand.
I have tried to represent DeLand as a whole and consider what is best for DeLand, within our legal ability. Although there are a few votes that I would like to “take back” or change, I am proud of the research, thought and care that I put into every issue, project and decision.
I am very proud of the many things that we have accomplished during the years that I have helped lead DeLand. Including our new city hall, new fire station, two additional fire stations, new airport terminal, updating Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, updating Earl Brown Park, updating Freedom Playground, updating Jackson-Lane Park, acquiring 128 acres of land at Lake Moore for conservation and recreation, getting residential units Downtown, and construction of the “Charles Paiva Greenway” multiuse recreational trail which we recently extended by nearly two miles.
I am proud of the job growth, business growth, and the many festivals, community events, and activities that we support as a city.
I have served with a lot of great city commissioners and amazing city staff memers. I want to thank everyone who has supported me and helped me get elected – multiple times. I also want to publicly express my appreciation to my wife, Heather, who has graciously shared me with the citizens of DeLand.
And I also want to thank my parents, Aida and Richard Paiva. Who have always encouraged and supported me.
And I want to thank everyone who has made DeLand an amazing place to live, work and play.
We are blessed with many passionate people who give their time, money, energy and effort to our community.
Again, thanks for the opportunity that you gave me to help lead DeLand, which I will continue to do until my current term in office ends in November.

Dear SUPER WONDERFUL Charles D. Paiva, my AWESOMELY POSITIVE , DIVERSELY INTELLEGENT Nephew who all his life of my ( family respect-full love ) knowing him, in many events has always displayed RIGHTFUL GOOD BALANCED COMMON SENSE along with a CALM ADMIRABLE demeanor Personality! From my viewpoint when Charles stated ( I am proud of the research, thought and care that I put into every issue, project and decision.) ALL OF US in Deland somehow must understand AND APPRECIATE the QUALIT Y / QUANITY of SINCERE INDEPTH RESERCH , THOUGHT-FULL-NESS’S, PRESENT /FORESIGHTED with REAL CARE FOR DELAND in EVERY ISSUE, PROGECT and Decision ,, most likely in my opinion is : also knowing whatever his BEST conclusions are.. there are those who at meetings appose with LESS or Wrong research or moreso not caring about Deland and disrespectfull to many commissinors . I hope more Deland Citizens will be publically THANK-FULL for the many over-time hours / years , Charles has positve gifted Deland City!
Yes I am a very thankful uncle and Delandite that what ever Charles is voting or deciding upon with his ALL WAYS CONSIDERATE diverse knowledge that his wanting to take a break from public office is also good .
