The Deland Suns baseball team has offered the city of Lake Helen free batting cages for Mitchell Brothers Field, where the Suns practice. The Suns agreed to make the cages open to all as well as maintaining the area. 

While the offer is generous, Lake Helen City Commissioner Heather Rutledge brought liability into the picture. 

“I was wondering about our liability insurance,” Rutledge said.

City Administrator Jim Gleason, seven months into the job, explained that the commissioners are just voting on the concept, and that they will revisit logistics at a later date. 

Rutledge made a motion to move the project forward, and all five commissioners voted in favor of the addition coming to Lake Helen.
