Editor, The Beacon:
I read the letter from Ms. Emelock (5/30-6/5) with great interest, as it brought back some unpleasant memories.
My wife, now 86, came home from the 2022 polls very angry and upset. She said she was accosted by a large Black man while she was seeking info at the Democratic booth. She’d never seen this person before, but he was yelling and screaming things like “demon” and “child of Satan” at her simply because she was at that booth.
I later found out that it was Webster Barnaby, candidate for my district, District 29.
I don’t know of his qualifications for office, but, to my mind, his behavior that day was disqualifying. And it seems in keeping with the remarks alleged by Ms. Emelock.
I didn’t vote for him then and will not this time either. I don’t know how effective he’s been in office, but his intimidating behavior toward strangers — simply because he thinks they might disagree with him politically — should give voters something to think about.
