Urging all voters to participate in Aug. 20 primary
ADOBE STOCK

For 104 years, the League of Women Voters has educated voters so they are prepared to cast an informed ballot. As part of our mission, the League is focused on getting out the vote. There are important races that will be held during the 2024 primary Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Unfortunately, turnout in the primary is traditionally very low. While Florida is a closed primary state, all Volusia municipal, County Council and School Board elections are nonpartisan. Every registered voter can vote in those races.

The cities of DeLand, Holly Hill and Ponce Inlet will hold their general elections during the August primary. DeLand, Port Orange and Daytona Beach Shores have important city charter amendments and other referenda items on the August ballot. Voters who don’t show up in August miss the opportunity to have their voices heard!

To assist voters in learning about the candidates and issues on their ballot, the League hosts the website VOTE411.org. All candidates are invited to explain in their own words their positions on important issues. Vote411 also provides information on constitutional amendments and local referenda that appear on the ballot. Voters can learn about the candidates and issues in the privacy of their own home.

Our Speakers Bureau can provide speakers who will present impartial information on the proposed Florida constitutional amendments that will be on the November ballot.

We are a nonpartisan, all-volunteer organization, ready to help voters make their voices heard at the ballot box. Go to LWVVC.org for more information, and make your plan to VOTE!!!
