Conn’s HomePlus files for bankruptcy
BEACON PHOTO/AL EVERSON<br> DAYS ARE NUMBERED — About two years after it opened, the Conn’s store at 812 Saxon Blvd. in Orange City is poised for closing. The retail chain filed for bankruptcy protection and announced it will close about 70 stores.

Conn’s HomePlus is a well-known department store that provides a wide range of home supplies and décor. With 186 stores spread across states like Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Nevada, Conn’s has made quite a mark in the retail world.

However, things took a rough turn this Tuesday when the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Court documents show that Conn’s is facing between 25,000 and 50,000 creditors. Despite having assets worth $2.4 billion, they’re dealing with $1.9 billion in liabilities.

Among the changes, Conn’s has released a list of locations that will be closing in Florida.

Unfortunately, this includes West Volusia’s own Conn’s store in Orange City. While the store’s days are numbered, there’s no official closure date set just yet.
