Reader endorses Harper Hill

Editor, The Beacon:

To your many readers,

I moved back to DeLand three years ago, and one of the first people I met was Harper Hill. At that time, he was sergeant-at-arms for the Rotary Club of DeLand, and he was the person who inducted me into the club. He also involved me in various other charitable events in the community.

I think his experience with the Planning Board already gives him a huge advantage over any other candidate. The natural progression for him to move from the Planning Board to the City Commission will make this an easy transition! He is already familiar with choosing which ordinances are worth passing and which may hurt the community. He knows the importance of adopting resolutions, establishing policies and adopting local laws.

Not only does he live within the city limits, he operates his business in the city limits as well. And, as a business owner, he has a unique skill set that will allow him to competently vote on setting utility-rate assessments and other fees due by the residents, and also vote on zoning changes that affect the community in which he lives and owns his business. And Harper Hill has a unique view on local tax rates, which he will be charged with voting on.

In several positions such as the Planning Board and Rotary president, when faced with decisions regarding principles, I have seen Harper actively pursue people on all sides of the issue to get their take. I think that Harper is very well-suited to making DeLand the great place to live in as it has been for the years I’ve been around it.

That is why I, Anthony Candalino of Certified Mortgage Planners, endorse Harper Hill for City Commissioner Seat 2.
