Attendance matters

This writer came across the following on Facebook that was contributed by Floyd Henson Junior High School in Flora, Illinois, which is just east of St. Louis:

Attendance matters, missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but absences add up! When a student misses two days a month, they will miss 30 days a year; they will miss 30 hours of math over the school year; they will miss 60 hours of reading and writing over the school year; and they will miss more than one year of school by graduation. When a student misses four days a month, they will miss 60 hours of math over the year; they will miss 120 hours of reading and writing over the school year; and they will miss more than two years of school by graduation.

During the Volusia County Schools Student Transportation annual Recertification Kickoff, bus drivers, attendants and transportation staff had their annual meeting. At the meeting, several were recognized. The list of honorees includes Ken Weaver, Bus Operator of the Year; Angela Bristol, Bus Attendant of the Year; Lauri Savino, Support Staff Employee of the Year; Angie Gamble, District ESE Staff Member of the Year; and Karen Tubb, Superintendent Outstanding Achievement Award.
