
Georgia Turner, executive director of the West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority, will be honored as the 2024 Roger Pynn Great Communicator by the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. This award recognizes her outstanding community service and lifetime achievement in public relations.
Georgia Turner has over 40 years of experience in journalism, public relations, marketing and sales. Since December 2016, she has led the West Volusia Tourism Advertising Authority, creating marketing programs to boost tourism in Volusia County. Before this role, she worked in marketing and public relations across Florida and Alabama and ran her own agency, Georgia Turner Group, serving various tourism and community organizations.
A graduate of Auburn University, Turner began her career in journalism and has since been involved with Visit Florida, the Southeast Tourism Society, and the Society of American Travel Writers. She chairs the River of Lakes Heritage Corridor and serves on several other boards.
Turner also volunteers with The Neighborhood Center and DeLand Pride and recently received the “Flamazing Ally” Flamingo Award for her inclusive tourism marketing.
The event, the 50th anniversary of the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association, will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Rock Bottom Brewery, 1864 Victory Circle, Daytona Beach.
The new FPRA-VF chapter board will also be installed. Tickets cost $50, or $20 for college students, and include dinner. Purchase tickets at www.fpravf.org.
