Editor, The Beacon:
In response to the opinion from Lee and Amy Munizzi, they leave out a considerable amount of highly relevant information that they chose to not share. So I would like to add the following facts to reflect the vested interests behind Mr. Dye’s expensive election campaign and the developer donors who fund it.
According to Mr. Dye’s quote: “The reason to have accepted these contributions is to take some of the smartest people in the industry to sit down and help us craft real solutions that will stop the conditions that both of us are talking about today.”
The conclusion we’re left to deduce is that Randy Dye’s good friends, “some of the smartest people in the industry,” would not bother sitting down to offer any of their advice unless Mr. Dye were to be empowered as the next chairman of the Volusia County Council, thereby guaranteeing the rubber-stamp approval of all of their future planned urban developments, rezoning requests and annexations.
Apart from the obvious optics, if these “smartest guys” truly cared about proffering their specialized expert wisdom and applying the best building and development practices for the future of Volusia County, they would be the first ones giving it away, not just to Randy Dye, but also to Jeff Brower and to all of the County Council, for the greater good of all.
That’s how good faith and trust are built. And trust is, last time I checked, something that has to be earned, something that money still can’t buy … not even for $452,102.47.
As they say: “Gas, grass or a**, no one rides for free.” The developers expect to get their ROI, otherwise they would not have bankrolled a nearly half-million-dollar PR campaign.
Sincerely,
Lourdes Gonzalez
