Editor, The Beacon:
I am confounded. In my vibrant little town of Lake Helen, Florida, I see a multitude of Trump signs in the yards of people I know to be wonderful, intelligent, caring citizens. So many people apparently voting for Donald Trump for president. How can this be?
My father, Robert Clayton Feather, from Morgantown, West Virginia, and my mother, Gertrude Gingrich Feather, from Northfield, Minnesota, instilled in us five children that honesty and integrity are essential traits for good character and a productive life. Now 78, I can still clearly picture my father providing me with the foundation for my behavior for my life when he said to me, “Your word is your bond.”
Because I am the oldest of five, my parents urged me to “be the example” of good behavior. The “example” my parents presented for me is: the president of the United States, as someone to look up to and emulate. Is Donald Trump a person to look up to? Is Donald Trump’s character what we expect our youth to replicate? I hope not.
In my mind, Mr. Trump is a successful TV character. Mr. Trump is not a man of character. Please don’t vote for Donald Trump to be our president.
Sincerely yours,
Robert G. “Bud” Feather
