Editor, The Beacon:
Yup. It was a darn shame back when Daisy Raisler was mayor. I was the Zone 4 commissioner at the time. The city had the opportunity to borrow millions at around 2-percent interest as a part of the COVID Relief Acts that could have been used for capital and stormwater improvements.
Two-percent money seems pretty cheap now. All of the projects the city has listed currently are far more expensive today than in 2021. It is a real money problem for the city now, I’m afraid. Debt is in the future.
Regrettably, our most vocal citizens were opposed to the city taking on such debt. The mayor and City Commission as a whole refused to take up the opportunity. Some commissioners are likely unwilling to “suffer” the politics, too. Now, the politics are far less favorable, aren’t they?
Long-term solutions require long-term strategies, and courage, too. Couldn’t see the forest for the trees kind of thing.
