Consider The Beacon on Giving Tuesday

As Giving Tuesday approaches on Dec. 3, The Beacon newspaper encourages readers to consider local journalism among the causes you will support.

Through our partnership with the Florida Press Foundation, your donations to support The Beacon can be tax-deductible contributions.

Giving Tuesday launched in 2012 as a global movement to encourage people to exercise generosity to support and help build up their communities.

The Beacon qualifies as a community-builder. Your local newspaper supports hundreds of nonprofit organizations by advertising their events and telling the stories of their good works.

We also strengthen the community by holding local governments accountable for how they spend local residents’ tax dollars, and by empowering taxpayers with the information they need to get involved and make a difference.

To include The Beacon in your Giving Tuesday plans, donate online by clicking the “donate” button on the front page at www.beacononlinenews.com. You can also mail or bring a donation to 110 W. New York Ave., DeLand, 32720.

To make your donation tax-deductible, make your check out to the Florida Press Foundation. Checks may also be made out directly to The Beacon.

Your community thanks you.

Barb and her husband, Jeff, were both born in Kokomo, Indiana, a factory town surrounded by cornfields about 50 miles north of Indianapolis. In 1979, they set out on a road trip that would define their lives, and would end with their taking up residence in DeLand. After working at the DeLand Sun News and the Orlando Sentinel 1979-92, Barb helped found The Beacon, and was appointed publisher and CEO in 2013. Since late 2004, Barb has also managed Conrad Realty Co.’s historic property in Downtown DeLand, where The Beacon is an anchor tenant.
