Christ and woke philosophy

Christ and woke philosophy

Editor, The Beacon:

An open letter to those celebrating the birth of Christ, their Savior:

  1. I believe that if you know your Bible — really know it beyond the weekly sermon — you would be well-served to acknowledge that Christ was one of the first proponents of a “woke” philosophy. The true meaning of a “woke philosophy,” as opposed to the rhetoric you may have heard, means recognizing inequity and being willing to call it out and work toward changing it. That’s it!

In practice, that includes recognizing unequal application of law, unequal opportunity, and untruth about historical and current events. It means being truly accepting of all faiths and lifestyles; and providing more than money for those less fortunate than yourself. A woke philosophy means unifying love not divisive hate. We live in a political world, and a woke philosophy is Christianity in its political form.

  1. I believe that allowing the government to control what we read, but not the guns we buy; to control a woman’s right to make her own health decisions, but not protect community health; to control what we teach in school, not the way we pollute the environment is hypocrisy of the highest order.
  2. I believe that any Christian who voted for Donald Trump either

never paid attention to his stated intent nor his demonstrated beliefs, or chose political expediency over Christian values.

That’s what I believe.
