Sparton Corp. has landed additional work for the U.S. Navy.
The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $107 million modification of a previous contract with Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, which is an exercise “of an option for the production and delivery of a maximum of 20,000” sonobuoys. Sonobuoys are devices used in anti-submarine warfare.
The majority of the work, 54 percent, will be performed at the DeLeon Springs plant. The remaining 46 percent will be done at the company’s facilities in Columbia City, Indiana. The newest work order is to be completed in December 2026.
The Dec. 23 announcement from the Defense Department notes the latest work order is “in support of annual training, peacetime operations and testing expenditures, as well as to maintain sufficient inventory to support the execution of major combat operations based on naval munitions requirements process.”
Sparton’s DeLeon Springs plant has a workforce of some 760 employees. The local plant operates around the clock, seven days a week, with two 12-hour shifts. The company completed and opened an addition of its plant earlier this year that enabled it to hire more workers.
Sparton Corp.’s parent company is Elbit Systems of America LLC, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas.
