Update, 1:54 PM:
Members of the community were on the lookout this morning after being notified by law enforcement of a lost child in the vicinity of North Clara and West Minnesota avenues.

But it turns out the young man was simply taking a walk.

DeLand Police Department spokesperson Vicki Karr said a concerned resident had called 9-1-1 at 8:21 a.m. today to report seeing a boy, estimated at 8 or 9 years old, whom the caller believed was lost.

Police investigated, and eventually made contact with the child’s grandmother, who lives nearby on Delaware Avenue. The grandmother explained to officers that the boy had gone out for a walk before school, but had since returned home and was taken to school as usual.

Police showed a photo of the boy to the 9-1-1 caller, and the caller confirmed that was the child they had seen.

Update, 11:12 AM: The DeLand Police Department notified the Public at 11:09 AM that the boy had been found.

The DeLand Police Department is looking for a lost child they believe is in the neighborhood of North Clara and West Minnesota avenues.

Police said the child is a Black boy 8 or 9 years old, wearing a short-sleeved navy blue shirt, blue sneakers and no jacket.

Residents got text messages and phone calls from the automated system shortly after 10 a.m. today notifying the community about the lost child.

Police asked that anyone who sees the child call 9-1-1.
