MLK Day Luncheon Celebration
The Deltona DreamKeepers and the African American Association of Deltona will host their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Luncheon Celebration beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at The Center at Deltona, 1640 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. The theme for the event is “Keeping the Dream Alive – Through Diversity and Inclusion.”
The program features guest speaker and DeLand native Dr. William Bradley Jr., founder and pastor of New Hope Church in Deltona.
Dr. Bradley’s dedication to his community extends beyond the walls of his church. He founded the New Hope Human Services, a nonprofit organization created Aug. 10, 1998, to address unmet needs in the community. Additionally, in January 2000, he and his wife established ABC Daycare & Preschool.
In July 2020, New Hope Development Corporation was founded to provide affordable housing in the Deltona community.
His vision continues to create an atmosphere of hope and encouragement, as he desires to expand more ministries that meet the needs of people.
Tickets to the luncheon cost $25, and must be purchased in advance. A table seats eight. Call Mike Williams at 386-804-6136.
First miraculous sign
On Sunday, Jan. 19, Pastor Michael Bodger of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand will draw from the Book of John (2:1-11) to teach about the first of the miracles of Jesus Christ.
At Cana in Galilee, Jesus reveals his glory, causing his disciples to put their faith in Him. With this first astonishing miracle of turning water into wine for a wedding at his mother Mary’s request, Jesus begins his active ministry as God’s light in our world. A blessed journey!
Attention, middle- and high-schoolers! This new year, from 5 to 7 p.m. Sundays, First Pres youth will meet in fellowship hall for an evening of learning about Jesus, meaningful conversations, fun games, and dinner for all with Associate Pastor Casey Riker.
‘No Rules’
The congregation of Mosaic Unitarian Universalist meets online at 11 a.m. every Sunday. The Jan. 19 service is titled “No Rules.”
Many of us have been taught that spirituality is something that can only be encountered for one hour on Sunday morning within the walls of the church. But a deeper connection to something greater than ourselves can be found in many different forms and in many different places in our everyday lives, if we are willing to slow down and look deeper.
Join the Rev. Matthew Pargeter-Villarreal for a discussion about spirituality and how we can discover that it is all around us — and how sometimes that can mean more than anything.
Jan Holloway will be the service leader. Everyone is welcome!
‘The Power of Consistency’
“Pre-Decide” is the continuing sermon series at First Church DeLand. On Sunday, Jan. 19, Pastor Mark Bitner will speak about “The Power of Consistency.”
How often do we find ourselves wanting to do what is right, but somehow when we turn around, we do just the opposite?
Some people believe we are human beings living with a sinful nature. We are bound to mess up — a lot. How does one prevent themselves from making the wrong decisions? The answer is simple: through knowing Jesus Christ.

She will explore their origins, from ancient Indian traditions to their contemporary applications.
