This Valentine’s Week, the Athens Theatre in DeLand has curated a spectacular lineup of shows you’re going to fall in love with! On Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., relive the disco magic with the Florida Bee Gees. On Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m., let Sweet Baby James serenade you with the iconic hits of James Taylor. Then, Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m., experience the electrifying energy of Simply Tina, A Tribute to Tina Turner. With something for everyone, this week of unforgettable live entertainment is the perfect way to celebrate the season of love.

Kicking off the week, get your groove on with the Florida Bee Gees! Break out your platforms and boogie down to hits like “Night Fever” and “You Should Be Dancing,” as this tribute band re-creates the unmistakable harmonies of the legendary Bee Gees.

Fun fact: Did you know that the Bee Gees wrote and produced “Islands in the Stream,” one of their biggest hits, for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton? The song became a massive hit in 1983, but what’s even more interesting is that it was originally intended for someone else.

“Islands in the Stream” was famously written by brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. Over the years, the trio has shared that the song was initially written for Marvin Gaye to record. But he wasn’t the only one up for consideration. “It was actually written with Diana Ross in mind,” Barry Gibb revealed on BBC’s The One Show in 2016.

Then, on Valentine’s Day, the stage will be graced by Sweet Baby James starring Bill Griese. As America’s No. 1 James Taylor tribute artist, Griese, who hails from Nashville, delivers a refreshingly authentic tribute to the iconic seven-time Grammy winner, capturing the heart and soul of Taylor’s timeless music.

With his uncanny ability to channel Taylor’s spot-on vocals and masterful guitar playing, Griese creates a truly immersive experience, performing fan favorites like “Fire and Rain,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Shower the People,” “How Sweet It Is” and many more. His performance is not just a tribute but an homage to Taylor’s legacy, bringing to life the gentle yet powerful spirit of James Taylor’s songs.

Fun fact: James Taylor was the first artist ever signed by The Beatles’ Apple Records in 1968.

Griese’s show offers an authentic, heartfelt performance that will resonate deeply with anyone who loves the rich, soulful melodies of 1970s American folk music.

Rounding out the weekend, the stage will light up with Simply Tina, A Tribute to Tina Turner. This South Florida tribute band brings the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll to life with extraordinary energy, breathtaking vocals and unforgettable renditions of hits like “Proud Mary,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and “The Best.”

Fun fact: Tina Turner once held the Guinness World Record for the largest paying audience for a solo performer, with more than 180,000 fans attending her 1988 concert at the Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. Recently, Madonna surpassed this milestone with a staggering 1.6 million fans attending her concert on Copacabana Beach, also in Rio, in 2024. However, it was a free concert, so Tina’s groundbreaking record still stands as a landmark achievement in ticketed concerts, and Simply Tina channels her electrifying energy to bring her legendary music to life in this unforgettable tribute!
