BEACON FILE PHOTO BUTTERFLY SCULPTURE — Added to the city skyline in 2021, this butterfly statue flies outside the Thomas C. Kelly Volusia Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., in Downtown DeLand. The same year, DeLand was named the first Monarch City USA in Florida. Monarch City USA is a nonprofit organization that has encourages America’s thousands of municipalities to directly help the monarch butterfly population since 2015 by encouraging locals to support monarchs by planting nectar plants and monarch milkweed.
