Editor, The Beacon:
I applaud President Trump’s recent executive orders requiring federal employees to return to full-time, in-person work. A Senate investigation found that just 6 percent of federal employees are showing up in person, and no federal agency is utilizing even half of its office space. This is an outrage.
The American people expect and deserve a government that prioritizes public service over simply collecting a paycheck. Some claimed that remote work may have been necessary at the height of COVID, but it has long outlived that justification.
The federal workforce should serve the public, and that means being present, accountable and accessible. Meanwhile, taxpayers continue footing the bill for empty offices and diminished government responsiveness.
Enough is enough. President Trump’s action is a step toward restoring accountability and ensuring that our government works for the people — not the other way around.
Sincerely,
Duncan S. DeMarsh
