In general, the U.S. Navy would probably prefer that a bomb wasn’t dropped from a fighter plane six miles away from their target.
That’s not what happened during over a four-day training at the Pinecastle Range Complex in the Ocala National Forest, according to a press release from the U.S. Naval Air Station [NAS] in Jacksonville. The training was scheduled from Feb. 10-14.
According to the press release on Feb. 12, a Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet, “dropped live ordnance outside a target area … the bomb impacted approximately six miles north of the intended target location in an uninhabited area.”
The bomb ignited a fire that burned approximately 20 acres of the Ocala National Forest, according to the NAS.
No one was injured. No private or property damage has been reported.
