A woman suffered life-threatening injuries when the vehicle she was driving collided with a dump truck Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to the crash at about 2 p.m. Thursday. According to a preliminary investigation, a red sedan driven by a woman was exiting the parking lot of a business at 1590 South State Road 15A. As the sedan entered the roadway, it crashed into a dump truck headed southeast on the thoroughfare.

The woman was airlifted by Volusia Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

The wreck resulted in 15A being closed for several hours. The road has since been reopened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
