  1. In March of 1957, Federico de Leon, a top writer for Mexico’s top newspaper, Excelsior, wrote a piece in his “6PM” column in which he said Elvis Presley had been interviewed in Tijuana the week before and that when asked whether he was going to sing in Mexico, his reply had been that he “rather kiss three African american women than kissing a Mexican” something which should had raised immediate doubt as there is absolutely no relation between the question and the answer. The first person who read that column and took action was Carlos Santana’s father who ordered his then 9 year old guitar apprentice to totally delete Presley from his playlist. Presley bhad never been in tijhuana and the entoire incident had been caused by a Mexican mogul who had told ebvertyone in the then one party state that Preskey was going to sing in his daughter’s 16 year old bash, wgich was going to take place in Septembver of 1957. Becauase Presley was already scheduled to play in Vancouver on that date, to 26,000 at Empire Stadium, he could not go to Mexico, and in fact returned the black check he had received from Mexico’s Mayor, Ernesto Peralta Uruchurtu, who acted a a go betwen between the mogul and the Presley management. Peralta Uruchurtu was the nephew of the only Mexican national, a pliitician in fact, who perished in the Titanic. Presley was banned in 1957 (radio) 1959 (stores) 1961 (movies and TV), and then declared persona non grata in 1962. Santana never knew the truth and if he did, he never told anyone about it,
