DeLand Forgotten Founding Family
November 16 @ 6:00 pm
6 p.m. limited in-person seating at the Conrad Center, 137 W. Michigan Ave.
Longtime DeLandite and professor Dr. Richard Gibson will share the story of Col. C.C. Codrington and his family, who profoundly influenced the founding and growth of DeLand.
Col. Codrington brought the first professional printing press to DeLand, wrote the charter for the City of DeLand, gave Henry DeLand the idea of founding an academy in DeLand (later to become Stetson University), was a founding member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, and in 1878, built one of the two or three oldest homes standing today in DeLand. If you enjoy history, architecture and storytelling you don’t want to miss this lively presentation on these pioneers, their homes and businesses often lost in history.
This presentation can also be viewed live at Facebook.com/WestVolusiaHistoricalSociety.
