History Talk: ‘DeLeon Springs State Park – Its Many Layers of History’

March 12, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The park’s history is extraordinary because most human activity has occurred in the vicinity of the springs, as layers of time. The springs have attracted and fascinated people for more than 6,000 years. The springs have been the area’s lifeblood — providing drinking water, a rich food source, access to waterways, a mill and electrical power, health and economic benefits, and recreation. Take a trip with retired Park Manager Brian Polk to follow the footsteps of the original Mayaca people, and then travel to 1982 when DeLeon Springs State Park opened. Free. Call 386-259-5900.
