Juneteenth, short for June 19, marks the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to ensure all enslaved people were freed. This happened two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The event includes Black history reflection; food vendors; a children’s center; and entertainment. Free.
