Ladies Taking Liberty
November 2 @ 7:30 pm
Directed by Deborah McShane and produced by Suze Peace. Celebrate the 101st anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. The show explores the history of suffrage, from Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony to Carrie Chapman Catt and Alice Paul, from Sojourner Truth to America’s young poet-laureate Amanda Gorman. It commemorates the work and achievements of the many, sung and unsung, through theatrical vignettes, storytelling, song, and poetry. Historic images, documents and the spoken word will shed light on the long road to equality. The show concludes with a glimpse from then to now, highlighting how voting rights must not be taken for granted. Tickets: $17 preferred reserved seating (first six rows orchestra, and two rows center balcony); $12 general reserved seating; $10 per person for groups of 10 or more; free for students with ID. A $3-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase. Call 386-736-1500, or visit www.AthensDeLand.com.
