Prospective candidates must be at least 16 years old on or before June 1.
Once prospects pass the initial swim tryout, they will attend one of two recruit classes. These classes consist of 48 hours of mandatory ocean rescue training, 44 hours of Emergency Medical Responder training, and a CPR course. Successful completion of the class, background check, physical, and drug screening are all conditions for hire. A $750 recruit sign-on bonus awaits those who fulfill the recruit class requirements, with an additional $1,000 bonus available for those committing to a specified number of days during the beach season.
