Loosely based on Puccini’s La Bohème, the show follows a group of impoverished artists and musicians as they navigate their way through a year of challenges and triumphs during the onslaught of the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s. Rent has been praised for its frank and honest portrayal of addiction, mental illness and disease, as well as its hopeful message of love and acceptance. Not recommended for youth younger than age 14.
