Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Historic Plaques

February 25 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Historic bronze plaques will be installed on two buildings in Downtown DeLand, where civil rights history was made. At 100 N. Woodland (Museum of Art Gallery and Gift Store) and 101 N. Woodland (The Baumgartner Company), which were the sites of lunch counter sit-ins in 1960 by Black high school students from Euclid High School. One of the student leaders then was Joyce Cummings Cusack, later to be elected the first Black person from Volusia County to serve in the Florida legislature. Ms. Cusack will cut the ribbons at the dedication, followed by a communitywide celebration in Chess Park. Gather at 100 N Woodland. noon – 2 pm.
