Set in the mansion of the deputy mayor of New York, Rumors deals with four couples coming together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Charley and Myra Brock.

Chris (played by Kendall Morreale/Lorelei Wilson) and Ken Gorman (Kenma Landolfi/Logan Laguer) are the first couple to arrive at the party. What they find leaves them frightened and confused.

Charley has been shot, his wife, Myra, is missing, and none of the hired help are anywhere to be found. There is food in the kitchen, but nobody’s there to prepare it.

Worried that they could be accessories to an attempted suicide, the couple decide not to call the police, but rather cover the incident by keeping it a secret. Sensing something isn’t right in the house, their friends Len (Nick Destro) and Claire Ganz (Isabelle Gonzalez/Rocky Good) decide the occasion has been ruined because of Tennis Club rumors claiming the hosts of the party are cheating on each other.

This is complicated further when Ken tells Len and Claire that Charley shot himself, is alive, but knocked out from pain pills and can’t explain what happened. The couples agree not to tell the other expected couples, Cookie (Bella Pupello/Brihanna Gaytan) and Ernie Cusack (Mark Leavitt/Samuel Rosado), and Glenn (Logan Freeman/Jacob Erthal) and Cassie Cooper (Annika Dugo/Maya Swain), leaving them to figure things out for themselves. They all admit they have no idea what really happened.

Things seem to be going well until Officers Welch and Pudney show up (George Gemkow/Elian Nieves and Nadiya Giordano/Reese Hall) answering a call about a stolen car that brought them to this address.

Relieved that they are not being searched or questioned about a shooting, all the couples let down their guard long enough for Glenn to assure the cops he never heard any gunshots, bringing the guests back to the hilarity of keeping up a lie.

One of the guests impersonates Charley, giving a lengthy explanation of the evening’s events to a tired but impressed police officer and a confused and bewildered party of guests.

The play has been double-cast to give many students the opportunity to perform a piece of work by one of American theater’s national treasures. The senior Cast A performs Wednesday and Friday evenings, while the underclassmen Cast B performs our preview on Tuesday afternoon and on Thursday evening.

With permission from our principal, Dr. Melissa Carr, we had to sign a waiver from Concord Theatricals stating we would keep the language intact.

This show has adult language and situations unsuitable for anyone under age 13 and has a PG-13 rating. There is one recorded sound of a gunshot and frank talk of suicide.

We thank the parents of our theater students for understanding and agreeing to allow their students to perform in this show. We hope to see many people at the theater!

Tickets for Rumors cost $5 for students and $10 for adults, and will be available at the door.
