Spruce Creek Paddle

February 13 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

9-11 a.m. at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve, 2317 Creek Shore Trail, New Smyrna Beach. On a two-hour moderate paddling trip, discover the history and significance of the Spruce Creek Mound, and identify native plants and animals and discuss their historical importance to humans in the area, as well as their ecological importance to local ecosystems. The difficulty will depend on tides, wind and currents. Those age 10 and up are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard, a personal flotation device (which must be worn while paddling), an emergency whistle, water to drink, sunscreen and bug spray. Wear warm clothing and closed-toe shoes that can get wet. Arrive 30 minutes early to organize gear and complete a waiver. Waivers must be completed in full to participate in the program. Free. Reservations are required. Contact Tommy Nordmann at tnordmann@volusia.org or 386-736-5927, ext. 12072.
