The Men Who Made Juneteenth Possible

In honor of Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, Dr. Barbara A. Gannon, an associate professor of history at the University of Central Florida, will highlight the role of African American soldiers during the Civil War. Learn about the battles, the recruitment of African American soldiers, the discrimination faced by these men, the importance of their service to Union victory, and their white comrades’ view of their service and support afterward.
