Several DeLand businesses were heralded as decorating stars in a recent contest staged by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Anita’s Furniture & Home Decor won first place, CFL Insurance Agencies won second, and Pretty Little Things won third place in the window-decorating contest aimed at generating interest in the association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in November, as well as increasing people’s knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease, which currently affects an estimated 5.7 million Americans.

The window displays were up June 21-28 throughout Downtown DeLand.

In addition to the top three prize-winners, Wily Owl Toy Store, Grrs & Purrs and Lace & Accessories won prizes in a raffle associated with the contest, and The West Volusia Beacon won a special-category prize for having the most informational window.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is set for Saturday, Nov. 10, at Riverfront Park on Beach Street in Daytona Beach. To take part, register online at act.alz.org/VolusiaCounty or call 407-730-1115.
