The DeLand Fire Department helped push for a virtual 9/11 remembrance ceremony this Friday, after the city’s traditional in-person ceremony outside of city hall was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City of DeLand spokesperson Chris Graham said.
“[The ceremony] will air on the city’s Facebook and Youtube pages beginning at 8:46 a.m. to coincide with when the first tower of the World Trade Center was struck,” Graham said.
The remembrance will end at 9:03 a.m., marking the time when the second tower was hit.
The city has already filmed part of the video with the help of local business The Studio Creative Group.
It includes studio interviews with DeLand Fire Chief Todd Allen, as well as a performance by the DeLand Fire Department’s Bagpipe and Drum Corps, along with a 21-gun salute organized by VFW Post 2380.
