OFF THE BEAT: Pour a little sugar on me — not in my gas tank

A Deltona man told deputies he had “a small verbal altercation” with a neighbor lady Sept. 4, and, at about 9:20 that night, “he was sitting in his backyard when he heard a noise coming from the side of his [pickup truck].”

“When he looked over his fence … he observed [Neighbor Lady] messing with his gas tank.” He shouted at her, and she ran back to her house.

The irritated fellow called the Sheriff’s Office, and they sent two or more deputies to his home. Deputies observed “a small amount of sugar near the entrance of the gas tank,” and the truck owner told them fixing the tank would cost about $700.

He also let deputies see some video footage from his Ring camera. The video showed Neighbor Lady, a 51-year-old who happened to be wearing a black bikini, “approach [her neighbor’s] vehicle, insert a funnel and pour sugar down the gas tank.” Maybe she thought the bikini would distract any witnesses from noticing her destructive actions?

Deputies went to Neighbor Lady’s home, where she told them “she has issues with her neighbors” and that “she went outside with cat litter but denied approaching and dumping sugar in the gas tank.”

However, once they told her they had video of her actions with the truck, she wouldn’t speak to them anymore.

Neighbor Lady was charged with criminal mischief damaging property over $200 and under $1,000. I’m not sure if they took her to jail in her bikini.
