BEACON PHOTO/NOAH HERTZ SMOKE AND FIRE DAMAGE — Various pieces of equipment and the laundromat’s building were left damaged after a fire at the Quick Clean laundromat at 117 W. Plymouth Ave. in DeLand on the morning of Feb. 11.

An early-morning fire at the Quick Clean laundromat at 117 W. Plymouth Ave. in DeLand has temporarily shut down the 70-year-old business.

Co-owner Andrea Clark said she didn’t know about the fire until she received a call around 2:30 this morning, Feb. 11, letting her know the laundromat was on fire. No one was injured during the fire.

Units from the DeLand Fire Department and Volusia Fire Services responded to extinguish the fire in the building. The blaze left the laundromat with structural and equipment damage.

As of this morning, fire investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Until the investigation is finished and the smoke and fire damage inside the laundromat can be repaired, the business is closed.

The family-owned laundromat, run by Darlene and Elmer Smith and their daughter, Andrea Clark, has been in operation by the family since 1986. Even before then, the Plymouth Avenue business has operated as a laundromat since the 1950s.
