Volusia County Schools plans to reopen all schools Wednesday, Oct. 5, officials announced at a virtual press conference today.
Four schools, acting as emergency shelters, hosted almost 400 evacuees during Hurricane Ian. The remaining evacuees have been transported to the Ocean Center, 101 N Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach.
“We have a few schools that we’re monitoring closely due to standing water and or some extra debris,” Volusia Schools Communications Director Angel Gomez said.
District and school-based administrators are instructed to report on Monday, Oct. 3.
“If there are any employees that are going through a hard time please reach out to your supervisors,” School Board Chair Ruben Colon said. “Let us know how we can help you … we’re gonna get through this.”
