High-energy singing and dancing will hit the Athens Theatre stage Saturday, Oct. 22, as Absolute Queen plays at DeLand’s historic theater. Fans of Queen, one of the greatest rock bands of all time, will be catapulted into the heyday of early 1980s rock concerts, when Absolute Queen performs shows at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Absolute Queen is an unbelievably realistic Queen tribute show that stunningly replicates the band’s legendary songs, unmistakable music and sensational effects, virtually note for note.
Having spent hundreds of hours in the studio perfecting the nuances of Queen’s harmony, vocals and instrumentation, Welsh-born lead singer Martyn Jenkins has been touring on both sides of the Atlantic for many years. Jenkins’ European tour, “Night at the Opera,” was wildly successful, as were his many performances for the official Queen Fan Club. He has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen.
Queenophiles can expect to hear their favorite hits, such as “We Are the Champions,” “Best Friend,” “Keep Yourself Alive” and “Another One Bites the Dust.”
Tickets to this rockin’ performance cost $35 for preferred reserved seating (first six rows orchestra, and two rows center balcony) and $30 for general reserved seating. A $4-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.
Rounding out this stellar weekend is Sunday’s performance of Dracula by famed dance company Flamenco del Sol. At 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, guests will explore Bram Stoker’s classic tale in a new and most innovative way. The heart of this tale is recounted as a timeless love story with settings in both the Old and New World.
