DeLand Pride hosted a “drag turnabout,” a charity event where everyday citizens, with the help of professional drag performers, are transformed into dolled-up lip-sync’ers extraordinaires. Beacon publisher Barb Shepherd became drag persona “Prints,” while her husband, Jeff, was “Jazzman,” a nod to his role as a saxophonist in a local jazz band, for their duet of “All of Me.”
They, along with seven other performers, raised $10,000 for the Volusia-Flagler Rainbow Alliance Scholarship, which provides grants for local LGBTQ+ students.
